Thank you for visiting our web site.  We hope you will find your visit a pleasant one.  We want our site to be very family oriented and for all dog lovers, but espeically for those who love the Yorkshire Terrier as much as we do!
Above, (Left) you can see our home in Winter - that is, when on the very rare occasions, we get a very few inches of snow - and (Right), in Spring when the grass starts turning green and flowers begin to bloom.

We are not a kennel nor do we have a kennel building nor kennel facilities.  All our dogs live inside our home with us and are treated as family members.  They hang around under foot and sleep on the sofa.  All the Yorkies love to watch TV and some have their very own favorite TV shows.
The Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed and is not to exceed 7 pounds.  For the AKC standard for the Breed, he is classified as a "toy" and is shown in the Toy Group.  But, do not let his size fool you.  He is not the shy, wimpy little lap dog as everyone would like to believe.  He is very energetic, brave, loyal extremely clever and most affectionate to his master and family members.  He can be very stubborn and, therefore, carries the true "Terrier" heritage.  He was originally bred to hunt vermin in his native country of Scotland.

Even today, the Yorkshire Terrier is a robust little hunter for anything that scurries about.  He will take off on the hunt at a second's notice when he spies a little chipmunk, bird or even a squirrel lurking in his backyard.  His ability to take flight on the chase is  just one reason the little Yorkie must be watched when out and about.  He should be kept on lead when he is not in the confines of his fenced in backyard.  He does not see nor understand what danger is and what trouble his tiny little nose can get him in to.  He is the hunter and will go to the ends of the earth to attempt catching whatever he chases.
There are several theories as to exactly where the Yorkshire Terrier originated.  Just as with any breed of dog, true origins are guesses at best.  It is believed the Yorkshire Terrier came from Scotland and not the county of Yorkshire in England.

It is thought the Yorkshire Terrier got  his start in life through crosses of a few now extinct old breeds.  One was called the Waterside Terrier, which was a blue-gray, long-coated dog, weighing between 6 and 20 pounds.  The Waterside Terrier was developed by crosses of the old black and tan terrier and the Paisley and Clydesdale Terriers.  It was brought to Yorkshire England by weavers from Scotland in the mid-19th century.

The Yorkshire Terrier made his debut at a benched dog show in England in 1861.  The Yorkie was called the "broken-haired Scotch Terrier" at this time.  In 1870, the breed then became known as the Yorkshire Terrier.  A writer for The Field magazine in England said that the hardy little terrier should no longer be called the Scotch Terrier, but The Yorkshire Terrier for having been improved in Yorkshire England.
Below, we have added a few myths and facts about the Yorkshire Terrier:

1.  MYTH - Yorkshire Terriers can weigh as much as 17 pounds.
FACTAlthough, there are several Yorkies that can weigh that much, these heavy-weight little boys and girls are produced from indiscriminate breeding practices.  The correct weight for any Yorkie is 7 pounds and not one pound more!

2.  MYTH -  Yorkies come in several different sizes ~ Toy, Tea Cup, Mini and   Micro Mini.
FACT -   There is only one size and one size ONLY for the Yorkshire Terrier.  That one size is simply called the Yorkshire Terrier with no other prefixes to the Yorkshire Terrier name!  The very tiny Yorkies are no more than the smallest pups in a litter, often times called "runts".  The unethical breeder who advertises Yorkies as Toys, Tea Cups, Minis and Micro Minis does so in order to fetch higher prices for these smaller pups in a litter.  We have seen many such pups advertised with prices as high as $7,000.00.  If the buyer is not educated to the true Yorkie standard, they will purchase such tiny pups, thinking they are getting something quite small and rare.  However, the smaller the Yorkshire Terrier, the more health problems it will have at some point in its little life.

3.   MYTH - Due to their "lap size", Yorkies will never want to venture far from  home.
FACT -  It is true that Yorkies are diminutive in size, but they are tenacious little canines with much courage and high energy.  They can run from your sight quicker than you can say their name!  It is best to always keep a close eye on your Yorkie and keep him close by use of collar and lead.

4.   MYTH - Yorkie ears can stand erect or fold over and hang down.
FACT -   All Yorkshire Terrier ears should stand erect.  As puppies, most little ones' ears will fold over and may stay folded until they are as old as 6 months.  Breeders help the Yorkie's ears to stand by shaving the tips of the ears and trimming around the edges.  Some times it will be necessary to tape the ears in the correct erect position until the ears are able to stand without help.

5.   MYTH - Yorkies come in several different, rare and unique colors.
FACT -  You will see many advertisements in newspapers and on the Internet for "rare" or "unique" or "awesome colors" of the Yorkshire Terrier.  These  are nothing more than false and misleading advertising, trying to get a potential buyer to pay a much higher price for an unusual color, such as Platinum, Chocolate, Silver, Black and White, Parti-Colors, etc.  These are not colors accepted nor recognized by the American Kennel Club.  A Yorkshire Terrier of these varied colors can be registered, but can never be shown and should never be bred.

All Yorkie puppies are born black and tan in color.  The standard color for the adult Yorkshire Terrier is Blue and Gold or Blue and Tan.  The standard for showing and breeding is a true dark steel blue color and a rich golden tan.  Please visit the AKC web site by clicking on the link below to read the standard for the Yorkshire Terrier:
